Bottle Artwork: The Epic Broncos
The artwork that adorns Bronconess is the work of Revere La Noue is an American artist, filmmaker and entrepreneur.
Revere’s work is a visual depiction of the essence of Western Michigan University. Revere interviewed coaches, over 200 students, faculty, staff, alumni and the President of the University; to truly understand “What it means to be a Bronco.”
His resulting building size mural called The Bronco Epic was featured at Grand Rapids ArtPrize in 2011.
From left to right the work tells a multi-faceted story.
1) The beautiful Lake Michigan and its surrounding landscape of hills and valleys capture the essence of a community etched with purpose and the determination to grow.
2) The stampede of diverse colors speak to the community’s inclusive culture energetic purpose to surge forward.
3) The back of the center horse is patterned with a bold "W" and the imprint of Michigan’s west coast is revealed in a white blaze down it’s face.
4) The horses heading into the frontier portray the community’s academic journey and the horizon of scholarly paths to pioneer.
5) This element captures young Broncos heading off into the horizon of opportunities. Their journey will always return to Western, signifying generations of Broncos who call this campus “home”.
6) Honoring Dr. Dwight B. Waldo, Western Michigan University’s first president; Revere captures the nurturing element of those wise from age, and the eager young broncos taking on their stampede.
